BeltsvilleBeltsville, Maryland with a population of around 16,000 residents is located in Prince George’s county seven miles northeast of the Maryland border with Washington DC. Beltsville is 11.9 miles from Washington, DC and nearby to Greenbelt, College Park and Calverton. Beltsville is considered to be part of the Capital Region of Maryland.

As the federal government began to grow, the U.S. Department of Agriculture began purchasing up local land for its Agricultural Research Service first of which was the Walnut Grange Plantation and it’s historic “Butterfly House.” The center grew to 14,600 acres and is the largest center for agricultural science in the world.

The majority of houses in Beltsville were built after 1969 with a homeownership rate of about 70%. There are a number of historic homes and buildings still standing in Beltsville. The oldest being built in 1773.

Cross Creek Golf Club, an 18-hole mountain style course northeast of Washington, DC is located in Beltsville. This championship course and residential community provide numerous creeks, ponds, and impressive elevation changes.

Beltsville has its own library which is a branch of the Prince Georges County public library system. It also has its own post office, a community center, and a volunteer fire department along with other various stores and eateries located along U.S. Route 1.
